LuRod Engineering was established by Rodney and Lucelle Kok, a husband-and-wife team with a shared vision of building a company that reflects South Africa’s diverse and dynamic socio-economic environment. Starting from a small facility in Pinetown, the business expanded steadily and now operates from a fully equipped 350m² engineering workshop in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal.

Tongaat Hulett Sugar Mills
Extensive involvement across multiple sites, including Maidstone, Felixton, Amatikulu, and the Refinery Sugar Mill. Work ranged from complete boiler refurbishments, manufacture and installation of economizers, to high-pressure and stainless-steel piping. LUROD provided ongoing shutdown support for piping and vessel fabrication spanning over a decade.
Maidstone Mill
Completed major boiler refurbishments on 120 and 150-ton boilers, along with full economizer manufacture and installation.
Felixton Sugar Mill
Delivered high and low-pressure piping solutions and fabricated and installed calandrias.
Amatikulu Mill
Provided varied shutdown maintenance work over a 22-year period (1998–2020).
Refinery Sugar Mill Expansion (2004-2005)
Conducted comprehensive boiler refurbishments, including superheater and economizer upgrades, piping modifications, and installation of side walls with headers.
Hippo Valley Sugar Mill, Zimbabwe
Fabricated and installed condensate tanks and piping over an 8-month project.

Completed repairs on 8 reactors and a full reheater retube, alongside diffuser piping installations.
Nachalo Sugar Mill (Malawi):

Nakambala Mill (Zambia):
Supported major expansion works including high-pressure and exhaust piping for turbines, spanning approximately 5.5 km of schedule piping.

Scope of Work:
LuRod Engineering was contracted to complete a turnkey piping project for the first Independent Power Station in South Africa. The project included the design, manufacture, and installation of high-pressure piping systems ranging from 40NB to 600NB, along with a 200NB Sasol gas pipeline approximately 1.4KM in length and additional piping totaling 3.5KM.
