Founded in 1997, LuRod Engineering is a 100% black-owned South African engineering company with a proud legacy of delivering high-quality structural and industrial engineering services. Our expertise includes boiler maintenance and upgrades, high-pressure piping, and general engineering solutions—serving clients across South Africa and Southern Africa.
LuRod Engineering was established by Rodney and Lucelle Kok, a husband-and-wife team with a shared vision of building a company that reflects South Africa’s diverse and dynamic socio-economic environment. Starting from a small facility in Pinetown, the business expanded steadily and now operates from a fully equipped 350m² engineering workshop in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal.
Over the years, LuRod has grown into a trusted name in the engineering industry, completing high-value projects for leading organizations such as Tongaat Hulett, Illovo Sugar, RCL Foods, and IPSA. With over 35 years in the engineering industry, Rodney leads the technical direction of the company. His deep experience and commitment to excellence drive LuRod’s reputation for delivering complex projects on time and to spec.
Lucelle Govender Kok – Director, Marketing & Admin
Lucelle brings strategic leadership in operations, marketing, and administration. Her diverse skills ensure that the company stays efficient, customer-focused, and forward-thinking.

TONGAAT HULETTE SUGAR MILLS
Tongaat Hulett Sugar Mills
Extensive involvement across multiple sites, including Maidstone, Felixton, Amatikulu, and the Refinery Sugar Mill. Work ranged from complete boiler refurbishments, manufacture and installation of economizers, to high-pressure and stainless-steel piping. LUROD provided ongoing shutdown support for piping and vessel fabrication spanning over a decade.Maidstone Mill

LUROD has contributed significantly to numerous projects for Illovo Sugar Mills across Southern Africa, delivering expert maintenance, refurbishment, and piping solutions.

Completed repairs on 8 reactors and a full reheater retube, alongside diffuser piping installations.Nachalo Sugar Mill (Malawi):

Scope of Work:
LuRod Engineering was contracted to complete a turnkey piping project for the first Independent Power Station in South Africa. The project included the design, manufacture, and installation of high-pressure piping systems ranging from 40NB to 600NB, along with a 200NB Sasol gas pipeline approximately 1.4KM in length and additional piping totaling 3.5KM.
This complex, large-scale project demonstrated our capacity to deliver high-quality, end-to-end piping solutions under tight timelines and technical demands—cementing our role as a trusted engineering partner in the power generation sector.
